What is “The System”?
Whatever it is, teh System must be taken as a given; it is the yardstick by which one measures the legitimacy of everything else. Nobody is ever allowed to challenge its legitimacy which is built upon the shaky foundation of the repeated assertions and unfounded declarations of those who control it.
The System could be the legal system. It could be the political system. It could be the perverted relationship between these two systems and corporatism. The System might be “The Man” holding you back.
It doesn’t matter. Ask yourself whether it’s legitimate? and how you know this to be true?
Question Authority.
Question the system. Above all, question its assumed “legitimacy.” Ask “Why?” frequently. If you can’t find the answer, dig deeper. If you meet resistance, you’re probably on the right track.
A few months ago I had a conversation like this with a friend. He could muster only bullshit, which is what lawyers always do when they don’t have anything cogent, convincing, or meaningful to say (which is most of the time). They don’t care whether they’re right, as long as they can convince you to doubt your own convictions.
He who wanted to turn everything in to a relativist game, saying things like “That’s just what you believe!”
Well, d’uh. That is what I believe.
What do you believe?
I’m not even asking, let alone forcing you at gunpoint, to live your life my way. I’m just asking (and politely so) that you stop trying to force me to live my life, your way.
If you’re incapable of accommodating that request, do not be offended when I declare myself incapable of treating you like a human being.
