Breaking news: Job market blows ass!

June 26, 2005

here is a typical sob-story about the state of the job-market in this country. Basically, everyone in this story expects to have a good job handed to them for basically doing nothing. They fail to comprehend the correlation between education, ambition, fluctuating job markets and demand. But above all, they fail to realize that nobody deserves a job simply because they “need” a job.

That is the ultimate communist cop-out: “From each, according to his ability; to each, according to his needs.” (Marx)

I was going to write a bunch more on this subject, but I think it’s pretty self-explanatory. For instance, I don’t have a good job. I have a downright shitty job. I’m not really ok with this, but I’m not OK with it because I realize that it’s probably my fault that I have a shitty job. Although I did better than most people, I could’ve done a lot better in school had I tried harder and drank a little less. I’m pretty sure I’m a downright lousy interview (I hate the artificial construct of job interviews, but I digress) and I’m a white male from affluent neighborhoods. I’m not exactly what companies have in mind when they are looking to achieve diversity in the worklplace. I have a useless degree and no relevant work experience.

But I need a job. Of course I do. Everyone needs a job. But don’t let that fool you into believe that everyone deserves a job.
