Can I call “Bullshit?”

February 28, 2006

The New York Times is reporting that yes, in fact people do favor a gas tax

but with several glaring caveats…
“If it reduces global warming…”
“If it reduces our dependency on foreign oil…”
“If it is equitably applied…”

can I call “bullshit?”

Will someone please get to the bottom of this? Because I really don’t believe that anyone, anywhere, ever, is readily willing to pay more for their gas. The bottom line is that to the consumer, it doesn’t matter if the money he spends on gas goes to stop the spread of greenhouse gases, feed starving babies on religious-right infomercials, or lines the pockets of oil-tycoons. The consumer doesn’t want to spend more for something that he can otherwise get for less.

I have a very, very, very (that’s 3) hard time believe that this is anything but a grossly unscientific survey masquerading as “news,” in order to promote someone else’s agenda.

What was that about “journalistic integrity?”
