I’m not a gamer. I wish I had the time, because I used to love video games – and I’ve seen the commercials these days. The games available now make my old PlayStation or SuperNES look like a dried up turd on a sidewalk in the summertime. I think I’d be a huge fan of the war-tactics games, like the Tom Clancy series, and the Brothers in Arms, etc.

Anyways, much to Governer Granholm’s (Democrat; Canada MI) chagrin, a Federal Judge struck down a law that would’ve seriously restricted the sale of “ultra-violent” video games in Michigan.

Last November, [Judge] Steeh stopped the law from taking effect by issuing a temporary injunction. On Friday, he made that injunction permanent, saying a growing number of judges have concluded that video games are protected free speech. The state failed to support its claim with substantial evidence that the games cause aggressive thoughts or behavior, he said.

So it seems, at least for the time being, that the First Amendment still exists in Michigan, which is mildly comforting amidst the all-around economic chaos of mass unemployment, stagnating real-estate and bankrupt municipalities…
