Rising Rx Costs? Shop Wal-Mart.

September 21st, 2006

Start shopping for your Rx drugs at Wal-mart. And buy generic. The low-cost retailer is announcing a trial run at 65 of its locations, to sell generic prescription drugs at $4 for a 30-day supply. This represents a sizeable reduction in the price of generics, which usually run between $10 and $30.

That’s between $6 and $26 more money for the people who buy their pills at Wal-Mart. How exactly can this be portrayed negatively?

…Right. If only Wal-Mart would beef up the health insurance it provides to its workers, the problem would be solved. Well, you know, except for the 99% of the population not on Wal-Mart’s payroll.
