Yesterday, I made a crack at Mitt Romney:
Does anyone else think that it’s funny that Romney grew up in Michigan, which State is shaped like a mitten? Mitt. Mitten. Get it?
Stephen Colbert, of The Colbert Report and The Daily Show fame, thought so, too.
He used a variant of the same joke in yesterday’s edition of the Report. Colbert postulated his law of electioneering, that voters will always choose the candidate whose name most closely resembles the state in which they reside. In light of this “law,” Colbert suggests that Giuliani ought to change his name to “Dangleschlong,” if he hopes to have any success in Florida.
I should have obtained a copyright on that joke, then I could sue him, like those folks with the Christmas Pug. Maybe they’re not suing Fox, I really have no idea. But they are raising (were raising) some amount of hell over the situation. I don’t buy the whole copyright argument*, and I don’t like it, to boot. I even offered an alternative solution. But I don’t blame the dog’s owners for chastising Fox’s hypocrisy.
